How to make an effective launch video

Updated 24 October

In short

A good launch video is short (15 to 30 seconds), shows the real product in the first seconds, highlights two or three concrete benefits and ends with a clear call to action. It should exist in each network's format: 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1.

1. A simple five-part structure

Most effective launch videos follow the same flow:

  • The hook (2 to 3 seconds): a short line that says what you bring.
  • The real product: your site or app, on screen.
  • Two or three benefits: what users gain, not a feature list.
  • Proof it works everywhere: for example the mobile version.
  • The call to action: where to go and what to do now.

2. Pick the right length

On social media, attention is won in the first seconds. For a launch, 15 to 30 seconds is enough: 15 for stories and ads, 20 for an all-purpose announcement, 30 when there are several things to show.

3. Match the format to the network

One video doesn't display well everywhere: vertical 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and stories, square 1:1 for LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook feeds, and landscape 16:9 for YouTube, your website and Product Hunt.

4. Keep your brand identity

Reuse your colors, fonts and tone: the video should be recognizably yours and consistent with the site viewers will land on.

5. Common mistakes

  • Opening with a long animated logo: the hook has to come first.
  • Too much text on screen: a few words, large.
  • Generic illustrations instead of the real product.
  • Forgetting muted playback: many people watch without sound, so the text must carry the message.
  • No call to action, or a link that's hard to find.

Bragr applies this structure automatically: it reads your site, reuses its copy, colors, fonts and screens, adds royalty-free music, and delivers the video, a preview image and a post caption. You only choose the length and format.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a voice-over?
Not for a short launch video: most people watch it muted in their feed. Clear on-screen text does the job.
What is the ideal length for a launch video?
Between 15 and 30 seconds. 20 seconds is a good compromise for an announcement used across several networks.
Do I need several versions of the video?
Ideally one per format you use: 9:16 for vertical, 1:1 for feeds, 16:9 for YouTube and your website.
